September is National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month
NCADD

Alcoholism and addiction affects everyone, directly or indirectly. In fact, over 22 million Americans have alcohol or drug problems! For over 60 years, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD), a member charity of Community Health Charities, has provided Hope Help and Healing to individuals, families and communities through education, prevention, referral, intervention and advocacy. NCADD’s education and advocacy is based in the science of addiction which recognizes addiction as a medical illness that should be treated and highlighting the fact that there are millions of Americans and families in recovery! NCADD is a Recovery Month planning partner, whose theme this year is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Real People, Real Recovery.”

Freddy & Tyler have both made a lifetime out of defying the odds. Expected to never walk, Tyler at the age of 20 was given nerve stimulation in the form of rhizodomy when he was 5 years old. He was only the fifth child to have the procedure done in the United States. Freddy, only 13, developed a debilitating infection in one of his legs called austiomalitis and saw amputation as the only available option. As Shriner Hospital patients, they were both able to share their experience with other patients. “We were all there to get better, and we helped and encouraged each other."
